Dolphins sign defensive tackle Adolphus Washington to one year deal

The Miami Dolphins have signed former Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Adolphus Washington to a one-year contract, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The latest signing by the Dolphins further fortifies their defensive front line — which has served as an area of emphasis this off-season for Miami. Brian Flores’ defense needs stout play up front — the Dolphins are hoping Washington can serve at insurance to their ability to set the line of scrimmage.

Washington, who was the 80th selection in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills, last played in 2018 for the Cincinnati Bengals. Washington played in four games in Cincinnati and logged a single sack.

Washington’s transition the the NFL has been a difficult one, the former Ohio State Buckeye was much more productive at the college level — logging 13.5 sacks and 25 tackles for loss during his career in Columbus. But now, the Dolphins will be happy if Washington is able to latch on with the Dolphins and be a mainstay on the defensive line rotation. Having as much depth up front as possible will be essential to help ensure the team’s athletic linebackers are free to roam the second level.
