The only thing we do know with the NFL Draft now just one day away? We officially know nothing. The Miami Dolphins’ search for a quarterback of the future has taken the fans through twists and turns and highs and lows — the end product will now be known in a little over 24 hours. But as the Draft creeps even closer, the amount of conflict in reports regarding Miami’s intentions continues to climb.
That climb may have culminated yesterday with MMQB columnist Albert Breer’s appearance on the Rich Eisen Show. Breer, while talking about the landscape of the quarterbacks across the top-10 of this year’s NFL Draft order, dropped a very eye-opening comment onto Eisen:
No one Breer has talked to as of late believes the Dolphins are interested in drafting Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. No one.
“The Dolphins, to me, are a pressure point there. Where you hear some stuff where that they could take a tackle and come back and get Jordan Love later. I think it’s been a point of discussion in their organization. I think the idea of even waiting another year has come up,” said Breer.
“I think if they do stick, they would take Justin Herbert over Tua. I can’t find anybody who thinks they’re taking Tua.”
Eisen, understandably in awe at the idea after 12-16 months of “Tank For Tua” talk centered around the Dolphins, then pressed Breer on the subject and another interesting rumor bubbled to the surface. Oregon QB Justin Herbert has a big fan in the Dolphins’ building: Dan Marino.
If Herbert is good enough for Marino, it’s hard to argue with that — assuming it is the ultimate decision that the Dolphins make. Fortunately, there is light at the end of the tunnel and soon the speculation can be put to bed for good. The Dolphins are currently scheduled to pick 5th overall in tomorrow night’s 1st-round. Let’s see what they come up with.
