Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders secures second straight monthly honor

The Miami Dolphins’ efforts this season to climb up the ranks of NFL franchises and potentially secure a playoff bid have been rooted in strong play in several areas. Offensively, Miami is opportunistic. Defensively, Miami is smothering. But on special teams? The case could be made that the Dolphins despite all of their defensive success, can point to their special teams units as being the best overall group on the roster.

That effort comes thanks to the play of Mack Hollins and others on the coverage units. It comes thanks to a greatly improved performance this season from punter Matt Haack. But the star of the show on special teams is kicker Jason Sanders.

Sanders, for his troubles, has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month in November — marking the second consecutive month this season that Sanders has taken home the award.

If the Dolphins cross the 40-yard line, they ought to feel great about their odds of getting points, given that Sanders has the ability to launch deep kicks straight through the uprights with little drama or suspense. How good was Sanders in the month of November? He became the only kicker in NFL history with 6 or more 50+ yard field goals in a single month of play.

Certainly worthy of AFC Special Teams Players of the Month. And Sanders, who secured the same award in October, seems to be on the verge of securing himself some recognition for his efforts on the season when the 2020 NFL campaign comes to a close. But for now, Dolphins fans can support Jason and help him earn the top spot among AFC kickers in the Pro Bowl ballot, a vote he’s currently losing to Indianapolis’ Rodrigo Blankenship.

Dolphins fans can vote for Sanders and other Miami Dolphins to make the Pro Bowl here.
