Dolphins fire offensive line coach Pat Flaherty, name replacement

If you know something isn’t going to work out, why prolong the inevitable? That seems to be the thought process of Brian Flores and the Miami Dolphins — they’ve fired their offensive line coach just months into his tenure with the team.

Miami announced the firing of Pat Flaherty just moments ago, revealing that they’ve promoted analyst Dave DeGuglielmo to take his place as Miami’s offensive line coach. DeGuglielmo was a critical piece of the Indianapolis Colts’ 2018 turnaround as their offensive line coach, but he was not retained by the Colts. Why? Because DeGuglielmo was actually a hire of Josh McDaniels — who accepted the Colts job offer verbally before backing out at the eleventh hour to stay with the Patriots.

DeGuglielmo had already signed his contract in Indianapolis and the Colts honored his contract in 2018. The end result? Their offensive line went from one of the worst in the league to one of the best.

The Dolphins now reap the benefits of Indianapolis’ decision to let DeGuglielmo walk — they signed him to be an analyst for the team mid-May.

Now? DeGuglielmo steps into the role of offensive line coach with the hopes that he can help whip this struggling group into shape before the regular season arrives.
