Dolphins among half of NFL to experience major coaching changes in ’20

While the fact that the Miami Dolphins were faced with significant coaching overhaul after just one season was a bit surprising, it turns out this is just a matter of life in the NFL. Would it have provided some peace of mind to know that the Dolphins would be running it back in 2020 with a completely intact coaching staff? Of course it would have. But that didn’t happen — and it certainly won’t come as an indictment to the Dolphins and the team culture being built by Brian Flores.

Because with every coaching staff now set, it’s clear that the league-wide tendency is to churn through assistants on a semi-regular basis. That’s never been more clear than now, thanks to this nifty graphic from ESPN’s Mike Clay.

The numbers are in — half of the NFL has experienced at least one coordinator change in 2020. So while Dolphins fans may have experienced some shock at the news that Chad O’Shea was released and Patrick Graham was hired away to New York, Miami is actually in good company. What’s more? The Dolphins’ failure to stop Graham from making a lateral move should speak volumes. So, too, should the difficulty Chad O’Shea had finding his next gig before landing with the Cleveland Browns as the team’s wide receivers coach.

It’s easy as a Dolphins fan to assume the worst. Heck, its forgivable, given the way this millennium has gone for Miami. But this isn’t a reason to sell on Brian Flores and the team’s direction. Not by a long shot.
