Dolly Parton fans convinced new song refers to Scots comedian Janey Godley's Trump sign

Fans of Scots comedian Janey Godley are convinced she gets a mention in Dolly Parton's new song, World on Fire.

The song, which was released this week, contains the lyrics: “Billy got a gun, Joey got a knife, Janey got a sign to carry in the fight."

And many flocked to social media today to say they reckon it's about the time Janey stood outside the American politician's golf course in 2018 holding a sign which read: 'Trump is a c**t'.

One fan wrote: "The new @DollyParton single is amazing and is that a wee reference to @JaneyGodley in the lyric “Janey got a sign to carry in the fight”?"

Another added: "Could we love Dolly even more? What a song!! And it even refers to Janey."

While one said: "I wondered the same thing when I heard it!"

Another penned: "Just checked it out on Spotify. A piece of Dolly brilliance. Definitely referring to you @JaneyGodley."

Another wrote: "Defo about you Janey "Janey got a sign" has to be you Somebody needs to verify with Dolly."

Janey later shared a tweet, writing: "I wish this was true." Before posting a GIF on Twitter with the words "Go Dolly".

Dolly's representatives have been contacted for comment.
