Dogs for adoption in Glasgow right now - from a husky to a bull terrier

It seems for the moment that summer has well and truly arrived in Glasgow, bringing with it days in Kelvingrove Park and sunny trips to the Botanics.

However, while most are running around the green spaces of Glasgow and enjoying the fine weather, others are stuck inside dreaming of a home. These others are, of course, the  rescue dogs at the Scottish SPCA.

The SSPCA does fantastic work saving and looking after these dogs, but ultimately what the puppers want is a Glasgow forever home.

Here then, for those with space in their houses, is a list of the dogs which the SSPA is looking after right now, waiting for their new family.

Dog-friendly places to eat and drink in Glasgow

Bandita, Siberian Husky (cross)

Bandita is looking for a new home (Scottish SPCA)

Bandita is a stunning three year old female husky, she was taken in by the SSPCA after her previous owner decided that they were no longer in a position to look after her.

Like many huskies, she is a very smart dog and apparently an expert escape artist, always hatching a new plot to keep her owners on their toes. The SSPA recommend anyone wanting to take Bandita on is experienced and knows how to keep her well exercised - mentally and physically.

A charity is asking Glaswegians to help keep track of the city's hedgehogs

She’s a really sweet natured dog who will repay your hard work with kindness, she’s suited to living with older children, though she must be the only pet in the house.

Jax, Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Jax (Scottish SPCA)

Jax, a four year old Staffordshire bull terrier, was taken in by the SSPCA after he was found as a stray in Glasgow.

Naturally, Jax can be a little nervous around new people, but apparently as soon as he’s comfortable then it’s all just one big love-in. He’s full of energy and would need a home with someone happy to take him on a whole lot of different walks.

The best home for Jax would be one with an experienced adult who has the time to help him settle in and adapt to his new life.

Loki, Mastiff (cross)

Loki is a gentle giant (Scottish SPCA)

We don’t know if Loki is named after the Norse god of mischief or Tom Hiddleston’s interpretation of him for the hugely popular Marvel films. However, what we do know is that Loki is a sweety.

He is apparently a gentle giant, who loves getting attention and a few cuddles. He has been trained in basic commands, but SSPCA are recommending a home in which the owners have time to teach him a few more.

Given his size, walking Loki can be a bit of a workout. He can be a little bit nervous around other dogs and sometimes bark at them, meaning that new owners would need to socialise him a bit as well. His size means that Loki’s ideal home would be one without children, where his new owners can give him space and affection.

Warning to dog owners after pile of toxic raisins found in southside park

Tigger, Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Tigger is a gorgeous high energy pup (Scottish SPCA)

Tigger is a gorgeous Staffordshire bull terrier who lives up to his name. He’s jam packed full of energy and really can’t get enough of just running around. Of course, walking him means that he can be strong on the lead.

Tigger can handle basic commands and loves running around with toys, though he will require some extra help socialising and fitting in with other dogs. To help with his socialisation, Tigger needs a home with an active adult where he is the only pet. Previous experience of a Staffordshire terrier would also help.

Adonis, American Bulldog (cross)

Adonis (Scottish SPCA)

Adonis is a stunning little American Bulldog who, we’re told, is always getting himself into trouble. Naturally, his new family will need to be alert and ready to deal with the adventures he brings them.

He loves playing with dog toys, but is also probably one of the cleverest dogs up for adoption. The positive of this means he may be the perfect pooch to teach new tricks, the downside perhaps is that he’s really rather good at getting his own way.

Adorably, Adonis might seem tough on the outside, but in reality he just needs a bit of attention and hates being left home alone. His new owners will need to have the time to dedicate to keeping him happy.

You can find out more about Adonis here .

Dogs Trust

As well as the Scottish SPCA, the Dogs Trust in Glasgow do an amazing job rehoming dogs and helping owners to adopt. At the time of writing, they have 23 different dogs looking for new homes, including an adorable Jack Russell Terrier called Bella, a Beagle called Frank and Border Collie called Luna.

You can see all of the Dogs Trust rescue pups up for adoption on their Glasgow page, here .
