Dofos pet shop say independent Leith Walk shops won't have parking or loading bays after tram works

Renowned Edinburgh pet shop Dofos have said that the tram works on Leith Walk will have a lasting impact on their business, even after the work is finished.

The owners said they recently found out there would be no loading or parking – despite the area being home to independent stores who get frequent deliveries.

While owners of the well-loved Edinburgh business said they supported the trams, they said businesses near them needed loading bays to function.

In a post on Instagram the company said: “Recently we have found out that once the tram work has been completed the stretch of Leith Walk we are on (between Dalmeny and Iona Street) has been given no parking or loading facilities.

“The council knows that this area is home to most independent stores who receive the heaviest of stock deliveries that’s why the Dalmeny tram community logistics hub has the largest team to help the local businesses (which have been incredible)."

“I am fully supportive of the trams and I believe they will be great for the area as well as they’re keeping many people employed during a difficult time. Myself, the launderette, Chinese supermarket and the Vittoria group have raised the concerns of this once the works are complete. "

“I understand the temporary disruption is going to make working life a little difficult, however after our businesses need loading bays.

“We are not fighting for special treatment we are fighting for equal treatment.”
