Doddie Weir Foundation to benefit from Irvine Rugby Club's annual dinner

Irvine Rugby Club’s annual dinner will take place in the Volunteer Rooms on Friday, June 28 from 7pm till midnight.

This year’s event will be a joint fundraiser for the club and the Doddie Weir Foundation - a charitable cause for Motor Neurone Disease - with proceeds split equally.

Speakers will be Doddie campaigner Scotty Glynn and John Gahagan. Tickets, £30 include a three course meal, raffle and auction.

To book contact the Irvine Rugby Club Facebook page or call Robert Auld on 01294 276278. You can also email rauld40@sky.com.

Both funds will also be supported by a sponsored walk by Irvine's Junior Section, a hill walking challenge by the Senior players and a funding page which can be found here .

Doddie, who won 61 caps for Scotland, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2017.

He has thrown himself into fundraising for a cure for the disease ever since and so far his Foundation has raised more than £1m for MND research.

Doddie received an OBE in January's Honours List and the Doddie Weir Cup, which Scotland and Wales play every year, is named after him.
