Jodie Whittaker has spoken out about the “devastating” exits of two Doctor Who cast-members in the forthcoming festive special.

The BBC has confirmed that the hit sci-fi series will return over the Christmas period, with an episode called “Revolution of the Daleks” airing on New Year’s Day.

Spoilers follow for the new Doctor Who episode…

It has also been revealed by actors Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole that their appearances in the episode would be their last in the show’s run.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Whittaker, who plays The Doctor on the show, said she was “absolutely devastated” about the news.

Whittaker said: “Without going into any specifics about anything to do with character, or what happens, just purely knowing it was my last scenes with those actors... both of them had to carry me to my trailer, I haven't cried like that for such a long time.

“Brad couldn't cope with it at all. Tosin was like, 'I really can't cope with you getting so upset.' That sums up how I felt, there wasn't a sense of relief in any way. I said 'Don't leave me with her!'”

The episode will see Graham (Walsh) and Ryan (Cole) join forces with Yasmin Khan (Mandip Gill) and Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) in a battle against the long-standing Who villains the Deleks, while the Doctor is imprisoned.
