Doctor Hilary reveals why you shouldn't wear a mask while out running

Doctor Hilary Jones has warned against wearing a protective mask while out running.

If you'e been going out for your daily exercise since lockdown began you will more than likely seen people out jogging wearing a mask to protect against coronavirus or maybe you've been wearing one yourself everytime you go for a run?

Well, Good Morning Britain health expert Dr Hilary says there's no need to wear them for exercise outdoors where you can safely social distance and said there are actually risks to having one on.

‘If you’re exercising outdoors and you’re jogging you don’t really need a mask, as long as you’re not with other people,’ he told hosts Ben Shephard and Charlotte Hawkins.

‘There’s no guidance to suggest your should wear a mask or it’s beneficial.

‘In fact, it’s covering your mouth and your nose, it’s inhibiting your breathing to some extent and some people would say you’re rising the rate of levels of carbon dioxide you’re breathing out when you’re exercising and that’s probably not a good idea.

"‘If you’re exercising on your own, you don’t need a mask."

On Friday's show, Dr Hilary also warned against pubs in the UK re-opening too soon, saying: "Like many people I’m saying I can’t wait for them to open... but I think it’s a difficult argument…it’s social gathering.

"When people have alcohol they're dis-inhibited, they're likely to flock together and forget the two metres.

"They're an enclosed space if they're inside and people are sharing loos."
