Do Not Swim notice issued at popular Dollymount Strand due to pollution

A Do Not Swim notice has been issued at popular Dollymount Strand due to pollution.

The order prohibiting swimming at the North Dublin beauty spot has been put in place until at least August 26, it has been confirmed.

This order was introduced after water samples taken showed that the water quality was not of a sufficient standard for swimmers safety.

The water quality dropped because of an overflow of stormwater in the area which was likely caused by heavy rainfall.

The order will remain in place until August 26 when another sample will be taken and the results published. Both the HSE and EPA have been notified.

A less extreme order is also in place at Balbriggan Front Strand where an 'advice against swimming' remains.

This is due to Balbriggan Front Strand having 'poor' water quality following the 2020 bathing season. For the previous three years, the strand had 'sufficient' water quality.
