Djed Spence issue, Bryan Gil helps Erik Lamela, Harry Winks frustration - Tottenham loan latest

Tottenham's loan army got plenty of minutes under their belt this week in matches across Europe but found differing verdicts on their performances.

Spurs have 11 players out on loan at clubs in England, France, Italy and Spain and all of them have had varying degrees of success away from Antonio Conte's side this season.

So how exactly did all of those Tottenham players do over the course of the past seven days? football.london takes a look below.

Bryan Gil (Sevilla)

There was a combination of Tottenham old and new on Sunday as Sevilla took on Almeria at home in La Liga.

The hosts found themselves behind in the first half but hit an equaliser from the spot and then Bryan Gil, who came off the bench early in the second half, burst down the wing on 72 minutes and curled in a perfect cross into the six yard box. On the end of it was none other than the flying form of Erik Lamela to head home the winning goal and hand Gil his first assist since returning to Sevilla in January.

Lamela left Tottenham in 2021 as part of the deal that brought Gil to north London and now the duo are playing together for Sevilla and their combination for the winning goal brought three important points to move their side away from the drop zone in La Liga.

Djed Spence and Joe Rodon (Rennes)

It was not the best of weekends for Tottenham's two loan players at Rennes as the Ligue 1 side were held to a 0-0 draw at struggling Auxerre.

Djed Spence started the game but just 18 minutes in, the young wing-back lost the ball to Gaetan Perrin in the Rennes half and the Auxerre man picked out a cross for Gauthier Hein, whose volley crashed against the bar.

The 22-year-old clearly was not playing at his maximum and it was because he was unwell, needing to come off at the break as he struggled.

While Spence only got 45 minutes to his name, Joe Rodon got none as an unused substitute for the fourth Ligue 1 game in a row.

Destiny Udogie (Udinese)

Destiny Udogie continues to rack up the minutes for Udinese this season with another 90 minutes as they won 1-0 at Empoli. The 20-year-old will pass the 2,000 minute mark for the season far with his next game.

On Saturday, the left wing-back's attacking endeavours brought two shots, both on target, and two dribbles but he was dispossessed three times. At the other end of the pitch, Udogie made three tackles and one clearance in a performance that earned him a rating of 7.24 by WhoScored.

Udogie is developing well at Udinese and will be hoping to make a big impression when he arrives at Spurs this summer.

Harry Winks (Sampdoria)

Harry Winks continued his run of 90 minute appearances with his eighth straight one in Serie A for Sampdoria. He was left disappointed though as his team fought back from two goals down at Juventus with two strikes in 72 seconds to go into the break at 2-2, only for the hosts to score twice in the second half.

There was controversy over Juventus' third goal though, with the ball appearing to strike Adrien Rabiot's arm in the build-up but VAR did not have a conclusive angle and the goal stood.

Despite their battling performance, financially struggling Sampdoria remain bottom of Serie A and 12 points from safety with only 13 goals to their name from 26 matches.

Winks said on Instagram after the game: "Difficult result to take when decisions go against us like that. Onto the next."

Tanguy Ndombele (Napoli)

Tanguy Ndombele got his most minutes in Serie A in 2023 as he came off the bench on Saturday for 25 minutes as Napoli beat Atalanta 2-0 at home.

The Frenchman played his part defensively in a central midfield role with one tackle, one interception and one clearance while keeping the ball well with a 93.3% pass success rate.

Ndombele is cruising with Napoli towards a Serie A title winner's medal, with the side sitting 18 points above second-placed Inter.

Sergio Reguilon (Atletico Madrid)

Reguilon has had to watch on from the stands following a thigh issue in training. The left-back was initially ruled out for a month with the injury in late February and he is expected to miss Atletico's game against Girona on Monday night.

Former Spurs man Matt Doherty will be hoping to get more minutes to his name after his debut from the bench last week against Sevilla.

Giovani Lo Celso (Villarreal)

Lo Celso continues to make his comeback after the injury that stopped him participating in Argentina's successful World Cup campaign.

After returning last weekend for a couple of minutes of action in La Liga, the midfielder then came off the bench on Thursday for 16 minutes of the Europa Conference League 1-1 draw at Anderlecht in the last 16 first leg tie.

He then got a minute of normal time and a couple in added time from the bench in Sunday's 1-1 draw at home against his old club Real Betis and his game time will be steadily increased in the weeks ahead.

Troy Parrott (Preston North End)

Troy Parrott struggled on Saturday during his hour on the pitch for Preston's 2-0 win against Cardiff.

The 21-year-old was handed a five in the Lancashire Live player ratings with the review: "Chased lost causes and put himself about but erratic at times. Lost his footing in the final third on a few occasions and made way at the same time as Woodburn. Had seen a low shot saved in the first half."

The Republic of Ireland international has got plenty of minutes this season around the knee injury suffered before the World Cup break but he will want to increase his goal output with just two goals from 22 Championship matches.

Harvey White (Derby)

Harvey White got 74 minutes under his belt as Derby lost 2-1 at Plymouth on Tuesday night and then he was an unused substitute for the 3-2 win at Oxford United on Saturday.

However, the 21-year-old did get criticised by the local media for his part in the defeat at Plymouth.

Derbyshire Live handed him a 4.5 player rating with the review: "Needed to do so much better for Plymouth's equaliser. Had to take either the ball or the man and ended up doing neither and it proved costly. Harshly penalised for the penalty. Needs to get better defensively. "

Dane Scarlett (Portsmouth)

Dane Scarlett started and got 75 minutes to his name in Portsmouth's 3-1 defeat at Barnsley on Tuesday night, but like White was an unused substitute for the 1-0 defeat at home to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Portsmouth News handed him a five in their player ratings, saying simply: "Struggled to contribute on the left-wing and had very limited time on the ball."
