DJ who was 'fat dad at school gates' shows off incredible five-stone weight loss

A DJ who once described himself as the "fat dad at the school gates" is celebrating after losing more than five stone.

Matt Vaughan, from Tamworth in Staffordshire, has now shared his slimming journey with millions of television viewers after he appeared on ITV's Save Money: Lose Weight.

Matt appeared on the show, presented by Sian Williams and Strictly contestant Dr Ranj Singh on Tuesday.

The 38-year-old, a former DJ at the SnowDome, tried the Dukan Diet and lost a stone and five pounds in just 28 days.

Matt was determined to lose weight because he was sick of being the "fat dad at the school gate" (staffordshire-live.co.uk/)

On the ITV show, people try a different diet every week to see which option best works for them and is the most effective.

Matt's weight loss plan, the Dukan Diet, is split into different phases designed to lose, stabilise and maintain weight loss.

Matt is married to Lisa and their son Caleb is two years old, reports Staffordshire Live .

This isn't Matt's first attempt at weight loss.

Two years ago, he started a blog called 'The Diet Journey' aimed at sharing his journey of being a busy dad juggling full-time work and trying to lose weight.

When he started the blog, he weighed 22 stone and managed to lose three stone by himself.

But he then took part in the TV programme and went on to lose a further 2.5 stone in just three months.

He said his main motivation for losing weight was because he was fed up being "the fat dad at the school gate."

Matt then carried on with the Dukan Diet after the cameras stopped rolling as he found it worked so well for him and has now adopted it permanently.

He said: "I'm so chuffed with the weight loss of 5.5 stone and I'm still going. From starting at 22 stone and to now be 16.5 stone is just amazing.

Matt now works for the BBC as a presenter (staffordshire-live.co.uk/)

"I can now wear clothes from shops I only ever dreamt of being able to shop in."

He continued: “I felt it was important to start the blog as men tend not to talk about this subject.

“I cook meals at home for my wife and our two-year-old son and I wanted to impart my knowledge on how easy cooking can be.

"I love to help others who, like me, love food and struggle with their weight.

"It is satisfying knowing that pictures of my diet food on Instagram and uploading a how to cook video on YouTube helps someone’s weight loss journey."

His blog is proving popular, with more than 20,000 followers so far.

And this isn't the first time Matt's appeared on TV either.

Last year he was the singing star on ITV's Change Your Tune and has also worked as a network producer for Heart FM and Beacon FM.

Matt has now moved away from Tamworth and is living in Hampshire working for the BBC as a presenter and producer.
