Distraught family’s tribute to ‘beautiful and kind’ woman found dead in suitcase in Athens

  • British woman Elisabeth-Jane Ross, 38, was discovered dead in a suitcase in a derelict building in the Kypseli area of Athens, Greece, on 18 July.
  • Greek police are investigating whether foul play was involved in her death and are awaiting toxicology results to determine the cause.
  • Investigators noted that Ross's phone remained highly active after her suspected death, with text messages sent to family and friends suggesting she needed time alone or was travelling to a Greek island.
  • Ross, an Edinburgh resident, had arrived in Greece on 29 June and had been staying with friends before her body was found.
  • Her family paid tribute to her as "beautiful, loving and kind," and the Scottish First Minister and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office are providing support.
