Disruption for East Kilbride commuters as cops hunt trespasser on railway line

Train services between East Kilbride and Glasgow were affected yesterday due to a trespasser on the line.

ScotRail announced on Twitter that trains going between East Kilbride and Glasgow Central were either delayed or terminated due to a trespasser on the railway between Hairmyres and Busby.

Police officers were reportedly seen walking along the tracks at Hairmyres station.

British Transport Police (BTP) today confirmed a man had been trespassing but had already left the railway line before police arrived.

A BTP source told us: "Officers were called to Hairmyres station at 1.44pm following reports of a man trespassing.

"Officers quickly attended and conducted a full search of the tracks and nearby area however the man was believed to have already left the scene.

"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
