Disqualified learner driver charged over fatal Sydney crash

Firefighters and paramedics on the scene of the crash.

A disqualified learner driver has been charged after the minibus she was driving crashed into a van in Sydney's west on Tuesday afternoon, killing a two-year-old girl.

Police alleged the minibus was travelling south on Mamre Road at Kemps Creek when it hit a van in a northbound lane.

All of the people travelling in the minibus are believed to be from the same family from Griffith, in the Riverina Region.

The front-seat passenger in the minibus, a 59-year-old man, was critically injured, while a 23-year-old woman sitting in the middle row suffered two broken legs.

A boy and girl, both aged 16, were taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment.

A 10-year-old girl and two young boys, aged nine months and three years, were taken to The Children's Hospital at Westmead.

The driver of the van, a 50-year-old man from Merrylands, escaped serious injury and underwent mandatory testing.

The woman has been charged with 11 offences, including dangerous driving occasioning death, driving whilst disqualified and driving with a child not restrained.

She has been granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Liverpool Local Court on December 20.
