Disgusting images show how Bootle is still plagued by fly-tipping problem

These shocking images show how fly-tipping continues to blight parts of Bootle.

Among the junk dumped in the area around Stanley Road are old mattresses, broken furniture, household waste and even a fridge.

A number of residents have bemoaned the constant presence of dumped rubbish, with one saying the local area has been '"left to rot".

One business-owner, Sean Burns, told the LDRS over a year ago that he had the council 'on speed dial' because the fly-tipping problem was so bad.

But almost thirteen months later, other residents are citing similar issues, and say they are fighting a constant battle against mess where they live.

Michael Brennan of Bootle Action Group says he believes areas within Bootle are hit 'much worse' than other parts of Sefton .

He said: "I'd say a lot of it comes from rental properties, when tenants leave, and landlords too.

"There are so many bedsits about now, and where do the people living there put their rubbish?

"This is why Stanley Road and Bedford Road etc. suffer so badly."

Bootle Action Group regularly performs street-cleaning and litter sweeps. But all too often, the group says, it seems like as soon as they finish cleaning, rubbish starts to reappear.

Each year Sefton Council 's cleansing teams have to remove thousands of tonnes of rubbish from alleyways across the borough, costing the Council £800,000 a year to clear up and dispose of.

Earlier this year, Cllr Paulette Lappin, the authority's Cabinet Member for Regulation and Compliance, said: "This is a huge bill to clean up after fly-tippers and our recent inspections show that there are still inconsiderate and irresponsible people who dump their rubbish illegally.

"No matter if it's a small bin bag or a huge pile of household waste, it's still flytipping and you will be fined heavily for irresponsibly disposing of your rubbish."

If any residents have any concerns regarding fly-tipping or wish to report an offence, they should contact Sefton Council on 0345 140 0845 or report it via their website
