'Disgusted' tanning shop owner slams dirty customer for urinating on sunbed

The owner of a tanning shop was left 'truly disgusted' after discovering a customer had urinated on a sunbed during a short six minute session, the Mirror reports. Odelle Burney who owns the The Tanning Room in Lees, Greater Manchester has slammed the disrespectful client on social media as she said it is the fifth such incident in 10 years of running the salon.

She explained that a staff member went to use the same bed at the end of their shift before they noticed the distinctive wet patch. Odelle said the employee 'ended up slipping on the mat because it was so wet' and then 'started to notice the smell'.

She added that not only is urinating on the sunbed entirely unhygienic, it is also dangerous due to high voltage present. The business owner wasn't working on the day but had to come in on her day off to help with the deep clean and said the guilty customer is not a regular but if she comes back she will ban her.

She took to the tanning salon's social media account to post about the 'truly disgusting' incident. Speaking of the foul discovery, she said: “It’s crazy, I don't know what it is but it appears to be quite a common thing in sunbed shops.

“Maybe it’s just from people coming in from the cold and then the heat hits them and they can’t control their bladder, but it’s definitely not the first time it’s happened - we've had about five incidents in ten years. The customer just scuffled nicely out of the shop and that was that.

“A member of staff had just finished their shift and went on the bed after her. She put her tokens in, opened the bed’s door and then ended up slipping on the mat because it was so wet.

Odelle Burney who owns the salon said she knows what customer urinated on the bed because she saw them coming out of the cubicle on the CCTV camera inside the shop (MEN Media)

"Then she started to notice the smell and lifted the mat up to discover what had happened. To wee on a sunbed with the electricity and high voltage is pretty crazy to me - why do people think it’s acceptable to do that?

"We have a staff toilet and we'll let customers use it for medical reasons or if there's an emergency, but we’re also opposite a library that has a public toilet. It's not like there weren't any options."

Odelle added: “We had to throw away all the internal and external mats and give it a deep clean and sanitise everything. We’ve had to order new mats and had to shut the room for at least half an hour, so we lost out on money having to close that.

“I could do without this, to be honest with you. It’s one extra thing we've have to deal with.” Odelle claims she knows who the customer is because the salon has CCTV cameras in the reception area which shows people going in and out of the cubicles.

She added: “We do have CCTV but we do not have cameras inside the cubicles at all. We just monitor the entrances and everyone coming in and out.

“They’re not a regular customer. Obviously, if she comes back in again, I’m going to have to pull her to one side and bar her.

"I kind of hope she doesn’t come back as it avoids me the embarrassment of having to do that.”
