Disgusted B&M shopper spots birds flying around inside and 'pooing in the aisles'

A B&M shopper was so disgusted to find birds flapping around inside and 'pooing in the aisles' he abandoned his shopping.

Liam Smith, 31, from Stockport had paid a visit to a branch of the budget supermarket B+M in Cheadle Heath on Friday evening when he saw the two birds, believed to be pigeons, flying around above him and perching close to the store's ceiling.

He says he was forced to abandon his shopping after they swooped down and perched on the shelves in the pet food aisle, and he saw what he believed to be bird poo on the floor, Manchester Evening News reported.

Liam said: "I'd been in the Morrisons next door and funnily enough I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone and nip into B&M.

"And when I got in there actually were two birds!

"I didn't see them straight away. Then after a bit I caught a glimpse of them flying around above me, and perching quite high up.

"There were feathers dropping down below. Then they started coming down. They were literally stood on the shelves and were pecking at the pet food.

"There was also bird poo on the floor in a couple of places. One looked fresh but one looked like it might have been there a while."

Liam said he left the store without complaining to store staff.

"I just wanted to get out at that point and left pretty much straight away," he said. "I have just been diagnosed with an illness and I can't afford to get an infection so I just left."

However, he said he tweeted the brand and emailed them afterwards and received no response.

"It's disappointing really. You certainly don't expect that. They sell food and other things so you expect better in terms of cleanliness and hygiene.

"It's pretty poor," he added. "With the cost of living and food prices as they are at the minute as well, you expect better than bird s**** and feathers in the aisles."

A spokesperson for B&M said: “We take a lot of proofing measures to prevent birds getting into our stores however, on rare occasions birds can wander in through automatic doors.

"We have worked with the store and pest control to remove the birds using non-lethal methods and cleaned and disinfected all areas affected.”
