Disappointing Cardiff City player ratings as duo's mistakes lead to Burnley goals and Aston Villa man has rare off day

Ryan Allsop 6

Actually made a number of decent saves early on and commanded his box well enough. Wasn't a great deal he could do about the goals that went past him. Made a great double save from Nathan Tella late on.

Mahlon Romeo 4

Made a big chance for Colwill early on with a wonderful run down the right. Found it tough to keep their left-hand side intact, though, and obviously chested the ball straight to Ashley Barnes for the hosts' second.

Mark McGuinness 6 (star man)

Had a right old ding-dong with Barnes for most of the afternoon and did really well. Set up Kaba with a great header, but the striker spurned the chance. Can come out of this one with his head held high.

Jack Simpson 5

Put in a big block on an early shot and generally did OK. No frills and played things safe, but decent enough. If he'd have jumped then Scott Twine's free-kick might not have gone in - but he was likely told not to do that.

Perry Ng 5

Out on the left in the first half before reverting to right centre-half in the second half. A typically solid outing for the defender.

Ryan Wintle 4

Burnley's midfielders really did dominate this one and Wintle struggled to really make his mark. Not the only one, mind you.

Andy Rinomhota 4

Played a lovely ball over to Romeo for that Colwill chance, but was also involved in that clanger for Burnley's first, where he was bundled over but then bizarrely kept the ball in play with his arm. Tough one to take.

Jaden Philogene 4

Looked really off colour for whatever reason. Kept making the wrong decision and ignoring his team-mates, opting instead for tame efforts on goal. A poor end to his stint because he's been fantastic.

Rubin Colwill 5

Was left frustrated by Philogene's failure to pass to him on a number of occasions. Had one big opportunity when Romeo crossed to him, which he missed. Looked tidy and lively enough with the little bit of possession he had, but was oddly pulled at half time.

Sheyi Ojo 4

Another game in which he failed to do anything of note. An early crossfield ball to him was miscontrolled out for a throw-in and he never really made a dent in the game thereafter. Another hooked at half time.

Connor Wickham 5

Was a focal point and was very much needed as Cardiff struggled to get out of their half. Won his fair share of aerial battles but then struggled to produce much quality thereafter.

Subs

Joe Ralls (Colwill 46) 4 - Made a poor challenge on Scott Twine, who then lifted his free-kick over the wall and into the net. Other than that, slotted into left wing-back and did OK.

Isaak Davies (Ojo 46) 4 - Ran his heart out but barely touched the ball in 45 minutes. Probably says more about how dominant Burnley were than his own performance, mind you.

Mark Harris (Romeo 64) 4 - Had a couple of nice moments, including when he fed Philogene down the wing, but the wide man blasted over the bar. But, like Davies, didn't have a lot of opportunity.

Sory Kaba (Wickham 64) 5 - Did well with one effort when he span his defender and got a shot away, but it was way over the bar. Had another chance saved by the keeper after McGuinness found him in the box.

Eli King (Philogene 87) NA
