Dirk Kuyt sacked after former Liverpool star 'confronted' by fans amid miserable run

Former Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt has been sacked as manager of ADO Den Haag after just 176 days in charge.

The 42-year-old was only appointed as the Dutch second division side's new boss in the summer, but with just four wins in 16 Eerste Divisie matches, Den Haag are currently languishing in 17th position in the table.

Kuyt was confronted by supporters back in September after the the Dutch club made their worst ever start to a season, with local police having to be called to the club's training ground, but with domestic football currently on a break for the World Cup, media outlet AD has now reported his dismissal.

Despite expecting to challenge for promotion, Den Haag have failed to win any of their last five matches and went down 1-0 to Roda before the World Cup break, leaving them with just 16 points from 16 matches.

Signed by Rafa Benitez in the summer 2006, Kuyt was a big hit with Liverpool fans for his high work-rate and uncanny knack of scoring in high-stakes fixtures. He scored 71 goals for the Reds in 286 appearances before joining Turkish side Fenerbahce in 2012.

Either side of his stints with Liverpool and Fenerbahce, he had two spells with Dutch giants Feyenoord, with whom he scored a hat-trick in his final game to help them win their first Eredivisie title since 1999, before announcing his retirement three days later.
