Dinosaur museum makes rare discovery close to home

  • A dinosaur fossil bone was unexpectedly discovered beneath the parking lot of the Denver Museum of Nature & Science in Colorado.
  • The find occurred during drilling for a geothermal heating study, with the bone extracted from a bore hole over 750 feet deep.
  • Museum officials highlighted the extreme rarity of the discovery, noting only two similar finds in bore hole samples globally.
  • The fossil is believed to be a vertebra from a small, plant-eating dinosaur that lived around 67.5 million years ago during the late Cretaceous period.
  • The bone is now on display at the museum, but there are no plans for further excavation under the car park due to parking requirements.
