Diners who ran up a dinner bill ordering steak and lobster have walked out without paying - leaving the family-run pub left £273 short. The Sutton Arms has reached out to the six customers on social media, drawing attention to their error.
The diners visited the pub, in Stokesley, North Yorkshire, on Thursday (October 27), and enjoyed three steaks and three lobsters in the restaurants well as more than £70 of drinks from the bar. However, they left the pub before settling their £273.40 bill.
On social media, the owners have said they are willing to give the table the benefit of the doubt and say they believe it's an oversight. The post suggested that there may have been some 'confusion' that another individual dining with them had paid, reports TeessideLive.
The pub did however say that if the total wasn't settled it would be forced to involve the police and post footage online. It appeared that the party of six had each ordered some of the menu's most expensive items, with three people going for the eight-ounce fillet steak, which totals at £24 per head.
The other three guests had gone with the lavish eight-ounce fillet steak served with half a lobster which was £32 each. The pub detailed that it had reached out to one member of the party via message to request they return to settle the nearly £300 bill, but had not received a reply.
The owners even suggested they would be happy to receive the money through the letterbox as long as the fee was settled. They stressed how hard they are trying to survive in what they described as a 'tough time for hospitality' amid the rise in living costs.
A spokesperson for the pub posted: "Please could the table of 6 come back to pay their bill after you left last night without paying!! I'm guessing there must of been a bit of confusion when leaving thinking another member of party had already paid the bill! We have tried to message you on social media but had no reply!
"Please could you pay the bill this evening or even post the money through the letter box! Otherwise we will have to share the CCTV footage with the police and on social media.
"We are a small family run pub trying out hardest in these tough times for hospitality, Mistakes happen so hopefully this can be sorted before we have to take it further!"
