Dina Asher-Smith set a new British record with an incredible performance at the World Indoor Tour meeting in Germany.

Britain’s fastest woman ever clocked a time of 7.04 seconds to triumph in the 60m final on Friday night, beating fellow Team GB star Asha Philip’s previous top mark of 7.06secs recorded at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Belgrade back in 2017.

Asher-Smith finished ahead of Poland’s Ewa Swoboda, who clocked 7.09secs, with Mujinga Kambundji, the reigning world indoor champion from Switzerland, third in Karlsruhe.

“I always love racing here, and I’m so happy to come away with a personal best and national record,” she said afterwards.

“I’ve had a really good winter, so I’ve been really excited to get back out here. The crowd helped me, 100 per cent.

“The last time I was here it was in the middle of Covid and there was no crowd, so thank you to Germany for making this an incredible meet.”
