Did you feel the earthquake at Muswellbrook?

Geoscience Australia measured a small earthquake near Muswellbrook in the early hours of Wednesday morning near a mine west of Lake Liddell.

The 2.8 magnitude quake was felt in the surrounding area around 5.26am, and was measured at a depth of 10 kilometres in the earth's surface.

It follows a series of quakes in December, which measured magnitudes of up to 4.4 around two kilometres in the earth's surface.

There have been more than 100 small earthquakes in the Upper Hunter since 2000. All have been at a relatively shallow depth and between 1.5 and 4.4 in magnitude.

Seven earthquakes ranging in magnitude between 2.1 to 3.5 were recorded near Muswellbrook over a five day period in September 2018.

Geoscience Australia is always interested in hearing from anyone who feels a tremor.
