Did Selling Sunset’s Nicole Young Actually Get Fired? The Realtor Speaks Out

Season nine of Selling Sunset has been a ride, from chaotic open houses, slow motion hair flips, and enough tension to power the Oppenheim Group’s obsession with LED signage. But the biggest question fans have been speculating about is simple: did Nicole Young actually get fired?

The edit in the show makes it look like Nicole’s real estate career at The Oppenheim Group was given the boot, but the truth behind the Netflix drama is a little more complicated.

Let’s rewind to that infamous scene: after a disastrous ‘Girlsgiving’ dinner argument with Chrishell Stause, where Nicole delivered the line, ‘Honey, you’re confusing me with your parents, okay?’ in response to being accused of drug use, the fallout spilled straight into the Oppenheim office.

Jason and Brett called Nicole in for an awkward reality TV HR moment and delivered the verdict. Jason, visibly frustrated, said, “I honestly could not believe the comment you made about Chrishell’s parents. I was viscerally disheartened and offended. Any reference to someone’s dead parents is categorically off limits. Especially if it’s disparaging.”

Brett added that her behaviour had been “incredibly toxic”, and announced their only solution: for Nicole to “leave this office”. Nicole pushed back, reminding the twins of her years and millions in sales, but the brothers were having none of it.

Despite the dramatic ousting, eagle-eyed viewers noticed Nicole’s name still on the firm’s website, stoking rumours of a staged firing. Nicole herself set the record straight in interviews after the episodes dropped.

As she told Tudum: “That storyline was frustrating for me, because the truth of the matter is I was never fired from the office or The Oppenheim group”.

She clarified that agents are independent contractors and not required to clock in daily: “Not coming into the office and continuing to work and do business, that wasn’t a huge deal”.

Nicole also flagged her fears about the ‘firing’ storyline, admitting “this is going to affect my professional reputation”. She confirmed she’s shifting her focus to Nashville real estate but added, “My new priority will be Nashville, but it definitely won’t be goodbye to LA real estate”.

The real estate agent got even more candid about the show on TikTok, saying, “It makes me happy to hear that a lot of people are over Selling Sunset…It’s gotten dark, so dark. It’s gotten so toxic… I want to work on something or do something that I’m proud of, you know? And I can’t say that anymore, you know?

“What a missed opportunity to be able to show young women in particular — what it takes in a generally male-dominated industry.

“But not one of those moments. It’s so frustrating. So, anyways, I think it’s time to wrap it up. Let’s just be done with this. Please.”

Can we all agree, it should be a wrap on Selling Sunset? This isn’t women empowerment, this is quite the opposite. Unless they’re willing to get a completely new cast and start fresh with a clear goal of showing women WORKING and the actual drama that happens during a transaction vs personal drama, then I think season 9 needs to be the last. #sellingsunset #realitytv #harshtruth

So, did Nicole really get fired from The Oppenheim Group? On-screen, yes. In reality — not so much.
