Pop sensation Justin Bieber was making his presence felt on the 'Gram with some back-to-back posts on his stories. The singer, who has been raising eyebrows for over his social media posts over the past weeks, was back to posting memes and other viral jokes.
However, it was one post that had fans speculating whether it was intended for his ex-girlfriend, Selena Gomez and her fiance Benny Blanco.
Coming months after Gomez’s engagement announcement, Bieber posted a still from Lord of the Rings featuring Gollum holding the One Ring. The picture was posted with the caption "Girls of social media when they get engaged."
Fans noticed Bieber sharing the cryptic post online, and sparked rumours that he may have thrown shade at his former partner. While he did not directly reference Gomez or Blanco, the timing raised eyebrows among followers as it comes just after the couple launched their first studio album together 'I Said I Love You First'.
While Justin's fans have defended him, Selena's fans have rallied up against the singer who has been married for nearly a decade and welcomed his first child with Hailey Bieber last year. A fan tweeted, "he's been married for 8 years and has a child at home to take care of, but still shading his ex on insta story...."
"Justin Bieber going crazy because of Selena’s engagement?? Karma is real," said another.
Still another said, "if I was hailey bieber id be absolutely mortified at justin’s behaviour since selena’s album release. absolutely mortified he’s embarrassing her to a point I think is genuinely unforgivable."
Others thought the diss was to his wife, Hailey who also showed off her huge diamond engagement ring. "On the occasion of Justin Bieber’s latest Instagram rant about Selena’s engagement, I would like you to absorb this. I hope he knows," read the tweet.
Bieber and Gomez, had an on-again, off-again relationship for nearly a decade before he went on to marry Hailey Baldwin in 2018 after just a few months of dating.
Meanwhile, Gomez appears to be unfazed by the chatter. The Only Murders in the Building star has been openly expressing her happiness about her relationship with Blanco, frequently gushing about him while on their album promotional tour.
While some fans believe JB's recent activity is purely coincidental, others argue that his history with Gomez makes this rather controversial.
