Did Grant WIlliams make a mistake not agreeing to an extension in the offseason?

There has been speculation that soon-to-be restricted free agent Grant Williams may get a hefty offer sheet the Boston Celtics might not be keen to match. However, if the analysts at one of our sister sites, Hoops Hype, are correct, Williams might have grossly misread the market for his services.

While there will be a decent number of teams with the cap space to sign the former Tennessee player outright, Hoops Hype has pegged Williams as the 23rd-most valuable free agent this offseason, suggesting he may be looking at mid-level exception money or slightly above it instead.

Described as a “defensive specialist who can guard multiple positions thanks to instincts, size and quick feet” who is mostly “just a good spot-up shooter on offense but a smart player who keeps the ball moving and doesn’t try to do too much,” the Charlotte native is an important part of Boston’s title-contending rotation.

But will that be enough to get Williams the size contract he was hoping for?

Only time can tell and it only takes one team with cap space to go ham on the former Vol standout, but things are looking pretty good for the Celtics if H/D’s assessment proves spot on.
