Did Champions League defeat in Napoli expose a weak link in Liverpool’s midfield?

Liverpool saw their troubled away record in the group stage of the Champions League continue, after suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Napoli to begin the defence of their European crown.

Jose Callejon’s fall under minimal contact from Andy Robertson saw the hosts awarded a penalty as the game headed towards it’s closing stages, as Dries Mertens stepped up to fire past Adrian from the spot.

Former Tottenham forward Fernando Llorente added gloss to the scoreline for the Italian outfit, following a cagey game in Naples.

The defeat means Jurgen Klopp’s side have now lost each of their last four away ties in the group stage of the Champions League , after losing each of their three away games last season - including a trip to the Stadio San Paolo.

Hear from the Liverpool manager on the decision which saw Napoli awarded their penalty , despite replays appearing to show a lack of contact between Robertson and Callejon.

With the European champions falling to defeat on the opening night of the competition, opinion was also split on one Liverpool midfielder in particular.
