Dialysis patient 'pinned to the floor' by men in alleged Gower assault

By Nino Williams

A dialysis patient was reportedly thrown to the ground by two men after being struck by their car on a quiet Gower road.

The 51-year-old, who also suffers from diabetes and has a heart condition, says he was confronted by the two men who allegedly jumped from their vehicle and manhandled him to the floor, then snatched his glasses before driving away.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses to the incident or anyone with information to contact them.

The man, who was returning from walking his dog on Brandy Cove on Tuesday, said: "I was walking towards Bishopston on Caswell Bay Road when a car went past, and its mirror clipped my arm.

"I shouted 'oi' and at that the car stopped a few yards down the road and the driver got out in a quite aggressive manner.

"Another man got out of the back and a woman got out as well. The men started walking towards me and I held my arms up.

"I still had my dog on a lead, and there was a scuffle and they pinned me to the floor and took my glasses.

"Traffic had stopped and two men on motorcycles called on them to get off me. I asked for my glasses back but one said he was keeping them, and they took off".

The man was able to take the licence plate of the vehicle and later reported it to police. Officers visited the driver and returned the glasses.

But the man said: " They have made counter allegations against me.

"I have a dialysis fistula in my arm, so I'm hardly likely to be able to carry out an assault.

"Unfortunately, police have been unable to contact witnesses so I don't know where it will go".

Both men are described as taller than 5 foot 9 inches in height, and with short grey hair and Welsh accents.

The victim is now appealing for witnesses to contact police.

A South Wales Police spokesman added: "Shortly after 11.40am on Tuesday, September 7, South Wales Police responded to reports of an assault that occurred on Caswell Bay Road, Bishopston.

"Enquiries are still ongoing into this incident, and if anyone has any information they are asked to contact South Wales Police quoting reference 2100315058".
