Devon hotel gets new bosses after Carlauren Lifestyle Resorts administration

Guests who have booked rooms at an English Riviera hotel in Devon are being assured their reservations are safe despite a firm it's linked to going into administration.

The Coppice Hotel was formally managed by troubled Carlauren Lifestyle Resorts, which went into administration in July.

A concerned guest contacted Devon Live to say they were having problems contacting the hotel - and this morning, their website wasn't working as it should have been.

But the Carlauren Group said that the website was being redesigned and that the hotel was experiencing some issues with their phone line earlier today, but that the hotel is open and trading as normal.

The Victorian mansion nestled between a number of popular beaches has now been taken over by Heritage Hotels.

Carlauren Lifestyle Resorts Ltd has Sean Murray named as its director - he is also a director of several other firms, including others named Carlauren, including a separate firm named Carlauren Resorts, and Heritage Hotels, which are not part of the administration.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Carlauren Group, said: "The Coppice Hotel, Torquay continues to welcome guests and provide the ideal base to discover the beautiful English Riviera and all that Torquay has to offer.

"The Coppice Hotel was managed by Carlauren Lifestyle Resorts which has gone into administration. However, the management has now been transferred to Heritage Hotels. This change does not impact on any future bookings or supplier relationships.

"Under Heritage Hotels we will continue to deliver to all our guests the utmost of customer service and ensuring that every experience is the best one possible.

"The Coppice Hotel will see a series of improvements and developments in the coming months to provide an even better experience to our guests, starting with our new Head Chef who will be creating some fantastic new menus and dishes to delight."

Heritage Hotels also owns and is based at the Grade II listed Langdon Court Hotel manor house, once home to Henry VIII’s wife Catherine Parr just outside Plymouth.

It is not part of the administration but  the Langdon Court website bears the logo of Carlauren Lifestyle Resorts , for which Carlauren Group is the majority shareholder

The Carlauren Group has been dogged with problems and is understood to have had some financial issues. A petition to wind up an associated company, CHF 3 Limited which trades from the same address as Carlauren Group and also has Mr Murray as a director, has been presented by a creditor at the High Court in Manchester.

In June 2019 Carlauren Group abandoned plans to develop a luxury hotel and a lavish “Ibiza style” beach club on the Isle of Wight, as an investigation was launched into one of the contractors on the project.
