Development planned for this Nottingham city centre car park

A range of apartments and accommodation for students have been tipped to redevelop a car park in Nottingham city centre.

Such a development has been deemed most suitable for the former Housing Aid site, in Lower Parliament Street.

Nottingham City Council has agreed on the "informal planning guidance" to help guide future redevelopment.

It will help during talks before planning applications are submitted and aid planning officers and the authority's planning committee in determining future applications. It will also help the site, owned by the city council, to be sold.

A report from the authority, confirming the decision, read: "A high-quality residential led development scheme consisting of a mix of apartments and student accommodation is considered the most appropriate form of development for this site to support the regeneration aspirations of Sneinton Market area.

"Proposals should also include small retail, office, leisure and café/restaurant uses."

Housing Aid, providing services supporting the homeless or those threatened with homelessness, relocated to a new "customer hub" at the city council's Loxley House HQ in January.

After proposals were tabled to flatten the former Housing Aid building, plans were lodged to use the site as a temporary car park.

With the old building situated next to the Brook Street Car Park, the demolition would allow the car park to be extended.

The car park will be used until the entire site is sold off for redevelopment.

Earlier this year, passersby said community housing would be their ideal choice for the site.
