Texans agree to trade Jadeveon Clowney to Seahawks for 3rd-round pick, LBs Mingo and Martin

The Houston Texans have finally reached a deal to trade defensive end Jadeveon Clowney after he refused to sign his franchise tag.

The club agreed to trade the three-time Pro Bowler to the Seattle Seahawks today in exchange for a third-round pick in 2020 and two players.

To complete the deal, the Seahawks will send defensive end/outside linebacker Barkevious Mingo and linebacker Jacob Martin to Houston, according to Albert Breer from MMQB.com.

Clowney, who had nine sacks and 16 tackles for loss last season, is a welcomed rent-a-player as the Seahawks try to determine who can replace defensive end Frank Clark, whom they traded this offseason to the Kansas City Chiefs, and they await defensive tackle Jarran Reed to get back from suspension.

Mingo is a 2013 first-round pick who produced one sack, three tackles for loss, a pass deflection, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and 48 combined tackles in his 16 games for Seattle last season, starting in 14 of them.

Martin played all 16 games for Seattle last season as a reserve. The 2018 sixth-round pick from Temple collected three sacks, two tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and nine combined tackles his rookie year.

Clowney was not set to count against the Texans’ 53-man roster, because he had not signed the franchise tag. However, Mingo and Martin will, which impacts how the club will finalize the 53-man roster by 3 p.m. CT today.
