Devastating terminal cancer diagnosis means couple desperate to marry before it's too late

The family and friends of a man with incurable cancer have launched a mission to allow him to marry his sweetheart.

Joel Thompson Chalmers Gray was first diagnosed with cancer at age 17.

The now 26-year-old was given the all clear but he was told last month he has acute Myeloid Leukaemia which is tragically incurable.

Joel now plans to marry partner Jenna Kersey with the time that he has left.

The couple lived in Stirling before returning home to Carlisle to be with family.

Our sister title LancsLive report how a campaign to get Joel and Jenna their dream wedding has now been launched.

Fundraiser Dave McKnight from Carlisle, who works for DAF Solway, doesn't directly know Joel but felt compelled to help.

42-year-old Dave told Lancs Live: "I know of Joel through my friend and I've previously raised money for the Save Our Stan campaign, the little boy who was also diagnosed with leukaemia.

"We all know somebody who has lost someone to cancer so I wanted to help and get involved.

"We've set the target at £2000 and the page was only created last night and so far raised £170. We're so grateful to people have contributed with their services too.

"So far the couple have been offered flowers, a buffet, a band have offered to play the wedding venue, which we're also helping with.

"It's really fantastic and we want to keep on going for Joel and Jenna. Thank you to everybody who has helped so far.

"We'll be coming up with more idea to help raise funds soon."

Joel is described by friends and family as having biggest heart and the best outlook on life.

A Facebook page set up yesterday called King Joel Gray: #teamwarrior describes the 26-year-old as always being "one to cease every one of life's opportunities" and that this fundraiser allow him to chase his dreams.

Joel loves motorbikes so Dave is organising a bike ride to go ahead on Sunday June 27 to further raise funds.
