Devastated mum of Edinburgh Omni Centre murder victim makes heartbreaking plea as man charged

The devastated mother of murdered man Peter Mullen has made a heartbreaking plea, following her son's shock death.

Peter Mullen, 30, suffered from serious injuries following a disturbance on Leith Street on June 2. He was rushed to Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary where he later died.

The police launched an investigation, and arrested and charged Dylan Curran, 23, with Peter's murder. He appeared in Edinburgh Sheriff Court on June 20, reports Leeds Live.

Peter's mother Margaret Smith has since launched a Go Fund Me crowdfunder, appealing for financial help for funeral costs and a memorial for Peter's children to visit.

She wrote the following message, it said: "Hi, I am Margaret, Peter's mum. On Friday June 2, my son was tragically murdered in Edinburgh city centre. Sadly, Peter has left behind a broken family and three beautiful children.

"The money raised will be used towards funeral expenses and a memorial for his children back at home in Leeds, so that they will have somewhere to be able to go and grieve themselves.

"As you are all probably aware this has left us all devastated and was very unexpected. Any contributions will be a massive help…..many thanks, Margaret x"

Curran, from Bonnyrigg in Midlothian, did not make a plea and was remanded in custody. He will now appear before the court in the next eight days. Enquiries revealed a number of people were involved in the alleged disturbance. A 41-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment and a 46-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with a minor assault.

There has been an outpouring of tributes for Peter outside the nearby hotel in Edinburgh and on Facebook, these can be read here.
