Destiny Rising character tier list (PvP and PvE)

Destiny Rising has different characters to offer for players who arrive with their own strengths and weaknesses, so it's always helpful to know who the potentially best choices are.

You'll depend on the gacha for most parts to get new Lightbearers for your Fireteam. But not all of them are built equal. Moreover, the core gameplay has two different aspects: PvE and PvP. Certain characters might be perfect picks to use in one more, but not so much in the other.

This tier list will give you a clear idea about how the currently available characters perform in the game's meta.

Complete Destiny Rising character tier list.

To assess every Lightbearer, I have used three grades.

  • S-tier means the character excels in their current roles for the applicable game mode. They have exceptional abilities and safe choices for you to invest your resources.
  • A-tier means the character is more than decent, and can even ascend to top-tier if you can build them correctly.
  • B-tier means they're okay choices, but better alternatives exist for their respective roles in a given game mode.

Characters also have different rarities in Destiny Rising, so you should keep that in mind.

Lightbearer PvE tier PvP tier Reason
Gwynn S S One of the best and only limited character available at launch. She's extremely hard to hit in the hands of a good player, and deal with large mobs of enemies pretty quickly. Has self-sustain to aid herself in PvP matches.
Jolder S S The best tank in the game who can hold her own with her Super. She can become almost invincible when paired with a good support character. In PvE, her Rage Stacks make her extremely strong as a lone wolf.
Ning Fei S A Ning is one of the most agile character in the game, and you can finish PvE quest quickly with her. However, there's a learning curve attached in PvP. Once mastered, Ning raises to S-tier on both modes.
Tan-2 S S Tan-2 is the best hybrid character in the current roster in both PvE and PvP. His build allows you to swap between damage-dealing and support roles as required by the situation. Has an extremely useful kit and also beginner-friendly.
Attal S A She's the second best support character in the game. Landing her shots in PvP is slightly more difficult, but she has the abilities to consistently heal her teammates.
Kabr B A Kabr isn't a bad character by any means, and he is available to all for free. His Pulse rifle availability makes him really useful in PvP, but he is behind the power curve for PvE.
Ikora A B Ikora's specialization with weapons that deal burst damage are highly useful when coming up against mobs of enemies. However, her use-case scenarios in PvP is highly limited, which reduces her usage value.
Finnala B A Finnala's defensive abilities might not have much use in PvE, but things are different in PvP. If you have glass cannons on your team, Finnala can force enemies to attack her instead and divert all the undue attention with her Taunt ability. Her kit is limited, but works well in certain team compositions.
Xuan Wei A A Extremely fun and melee-focused character who is beginner-friendly and comes with a good kit. The explosions he causes from his finishing blows can deal extra damage, and this scales up at higher relics. He might not be top tier, but Xuan is entertaining to play.
Wolff S S Don't sleep on the fact that Wolf is given to everyone as the starter character. His kit is versatile which only improves as you invest in him. His kit is the most beginner-friendly of all as you deal damage, reload, and repeat the first step. His mobility, combined with easy skills and simple cooldowns, makes Wolf one to invest in for the long road.
