Money talks.
Quarterback Deshaun Watson informed the Houston Texans on Friday that he is willing to waive his no-trade clause to be traded to the Cleveland Browns, per NFL Network and ESPN.
Watson already had ruled out the Browns and Panthers from the sweepstakes and narrowed down his possible destinations to the Falcons and Saints.
But Cleveland agreed to fully guarantee a five-year, $230 million contract, per NFL Network. Other teams like the Panthers had declined to guarantee more than two years of his new deal.
Watson wanted to protect his money since he is likely going to be suspended by Commissioner Roger Goodell for allegations of sexual assault and harassment. A grand jury decided it will not press criminal charges against Watson.
The Browns upset incumbent QB Baker Mayfield by pursuing Watson and initially said they would refuse to grant Mayfield’s trade demand this week.
Now they will deal him elsewhere after stunningly winning the Watson sweepstakes.
Three first-round picks would head to Houston in the deal, according to NFL Network.
