Derry Girls fans 'in tears' after emotional final episode of Channel 4 hit show

Derry Girls fans were left in tears after watching the final episode of the Channel 4 hit show.

Last night's programme, which was emotional from the start, closed with a silent Liam Neeson as the story told of the Good Friday (Belfast) agreement.

The coming of age show, which aired from 2018, saw the beloved characters turn 18 and even had a musical number in it on the Derry Walls.

Hollywood star Liam Neeson made another surprise appearance in Derry Girls finale (Channel 4)

The final episode saw Erin (Saoirse-Monica Jackson) and Jenny having rival 18th birthdays as Erin tried to persuade a member of The Commitments to perform at her bash.

When her mum combined it with a First Communion celebration to save money it became a disaster.

A fall out with Michelle (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell) also happened when she refused to condemn her brother for his role in a sectarian murder.

The pals eventually made up and Sister Michael ( Siobhan McSweeney) managed to stop herself being removed from the school.

As Northern Ireland began a new chapter, Chelsea Clinton also made a random appearance as she received a long lost letter from the girls before the police inspector, played by Liam Neeson, silently cast his vote for the agreement, closed the final curtain.

Fans were moved to tears by the episode with one saying: "This episode is upsetting."

A second agreed: "Incredible how Liam Neeson captured all those years on his face in this tiny scene, incredible no words, what a powerful finale #DerryGirls."

A third said: "Isn’t Liam Neeson brilliant! Not one word and spoke volumes"

And a fourth sobbed: "Crying after watching The Agreement episode of #DerryGirls It's the perfect balance of humour and painful realities. The fade out of Granda and the toddler hopping out of the polling station was the best symbol to end on."
