Derry Girls actress hints at role in new Barbie movie at Netflix Bridgerton event

A Derry Girls star has hinted that she may star in the upcoming live-action Barbie film, as she dismissed rumours of a role in Doctor Who.

Nicola Coughlan was in fine form as she appeared at Netflix's Bridgeton FYC event in Los Angeles on Sunday evening.

Rumours began circulating after the Derry Girls actress posed with the Fourteenth Doctor, Edinburgh-born Ncuti Gatwa at the BAFTA TV awards.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Nicola put the speculation to bed and sparked another rumour of her own at the Bridgerton event.

Speaking to Variety, Nicola said: "We are doing something together, but it's not Doctor Who."

The Derry Girls actress instead teased that Sex Education's Ncuti had already been announced for the mystery project, but she had not yet.

And Ncuti also hinted that their joint project is the upcoming Barbie film as he shared a cute photo of the pair to Instagram alongside the caption, "a pair of dolls."

Ncuti has already been announced as part of the A-list cast for the Barbie film, which will be fronted by Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken.

His Sex Education co-stars Emma Mackey and Connor Swindells will also appear in the film, which is set to be released on July 21, 2023.

Will Nicola be joining them? Only time will tell.

The hour long episode special of Derry Girls, and every other season, is currently available to view on All4 right now, if you are missing 'wee lesbian' Clare a bit too much right now.
