Derek McInnes makes key Rangers decision with important pre-season update

Rangers have cancelled plans for a pre-season training camp in Austria, with Derek McInnes instead set to take his squad to Spain as preparations continue for the new season.

The Ibrox side had been due to travel to West Austria later this month, with those arrangements originally put in place during Danny Rohl’s time in charge. However, a change of approach has now been implemented following McInnes’ appointment.

The Rangers Review reports that the club will now head to Spain late next week, with the new manager using the trip as part of his early work with the squad during pre-season.

McInnes has been overseeing his first full week of training at Auchenhowie, taking the opportunity to assess his options and begin integrating Rangers’ summer signings ahead of the competitive campaign.

Rangers have already made five additions during the current transfer window, with further business still possible before the season gets underway.

They begin their Premiership campaign away to Dundee United at Tannadice on July 31, before turning their attention to Europe, where they will enter the Europa League at the third qualifying round stage the following week.

That schedule has been impacted by the 2026 World Cup, meaning a slightly delayed European start and a tight turnaround for McInnes and his squad as they gear up for the new term.
