Derek McInnes borrowed Rangers boss Steven Gerrard's deflection shield to distract from own shortcomings - Hotline

Celtic were on song at Hampden on Sunday but the chants from the stands hit a bum note with Derek McInnes and rival supporters.

The Dons boss got sent to the stands for reacting to abuse in his side’s 3-0 defeat but Hoops fans were in the Hotline’s firing line.

Stephen Campbell, Yoker , said: “The Celtic fans were a disgrace on Sunday. They are out of control and something needs to be done about the bitter hatred they spout every weekend. The SFA should shut parts of Parkhead.”

But John Davidson, Armadale, said: “How does the support from the East end of Glasgow get away with sectarian and religious bigotry directed at the Aberdeen manager, then the manager reacts and is sent to the stand?

“One rule for one, and one rule for the rest.”

Derek McInnes should not have to apologise for suffering religious hatred insists Kris Commons

There wasn’t much sympathy for McInnes from Celtic fans though.

Lance Little, Erskine, said: “Whilst I don’t condone any sectarian chants I feel that the Aberdeen manager is playing the poor little me card to deflect his and his team’s shortcomings.

“His game plan was to send out 11 hit men in red to do a hatchet job on Celtic.”

Neil Macdonald emailed: “McInnes borrowed the Steve Gerrard deflection shield at Hampden. Another abysmal tactical performance from him at Hampden with a team of thugs.

"McInnes should speak with Neil Lennon or Scott Brown on how they handle the horrendous abuse they receive at Pittodrie, Tynecastle, Fir Park , Rugby Park and Ibrox.”

John Burke, Condorrat, said: “All that good work done by Ann Budge and Leeann Dempter to tidy up our game was undone by the actions of McInnes on Sunday. The chanting was wrong but his reaction was disgraceful when there were kids watching.”

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes hits out at officials' handling of key incidents in Celtic defeat

Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: “McInnes and Docherty disgraced their club and their employers. They can make all the excuses they want. In the heat of battle the generals deserted the front line.”

Meanwhile, Alan Clark emailed: “Do the Parkhead mob still think they are the victims of conspiracy theories? Hearts might as well concede the final now, as there is no way they will be allowed to stop the Treble Treble.”

Maybe time to talk some actual football.

Steve Mcsherry, Uddingston, said: “Although Celtic won the semi final 3-0 I have to say that Aberdeen are the best team we have played this season. They stood toe to toe with us and made a real game until the sending off. Why they aren’t clear in second place is beyond me.”

John Kerr, Coatbridge, said: “Everyone is talking about Mo Salah’s goal for Liverpool but James Forrest’s was better.

“What a cracking goal from a cracking wee player.”

Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: “What a weekend for Celtic. Another step to the Treble Treble, news of a probable massive sell on clause for Moussa Dembele and Shved looking like he’s going to run riot as Celtic go for the double nine in a row. What a player this guy looks.”

Record Sport’s Barry Ferguson’s suggested Lee Wallace deserves a decent Rangers send off.

But Andy Blackwood, Clydebank, said: “Does Barry really think Wallace is fourth choice behind an injury hit left back, a right back and a midfielder? Come on, the situation stinks.”

It’s always nice to end on a positive. Step forward Dick Campbell’s League One winners.

David Dewar, Forfar, said: “Congratulations to Arbroath. Titles have been like buses for the Red Lichties. We waited 133 years for one and now we’ve seen three in a decade.”
