The Derby Telegraph is nothing if not thorough in providing readers with essential news from the city’s streets.
On Thursday, the website news list included an item headlined Derby Nandos fans alerted to new items on restaurant’s menu. I kid you not. Here’s what it said:
“There has been some good news announced for Nandos fans in Derby. The popular restaurant chain has unveiled some new items to its menu in the run-up to Christmas.
A spokeswoman said the menu now includes chicken drumsticks for ‘the first time ever’. These can be ordered as a starter or a main course.
An all-new Prego Steak Roll is also available using ‘a new cut’. And customers can now order a fillet steak and chargrilled veg in either a pitta bread or a wrap. Chargrilled vegetables can also be ordered as a side dish.”
The final sentence of this scoop added a national, and even international, angle to the “story”. It stated:
“There are 339 Nandos restaurants in the UK, more than any other country in the world.”
The piece, somewhat low on what we might call the “news food chain”, attracted three wonderfully apt comments. One asked: “How is this anything other than an advert?” And a second wondered how much Nando’s had paid “for this advertisement.”
