Derby County sweating over injury to key player ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Derby County are in a race against time to see whether skipper Tom Lawrence will be fit enough to take on Nottingham Forest.

The Rams are set to host Chris Hughton's side next Saturday (August 28) but may be without their captain.

Lawrence was absent from Derby's win at Hull City on Wednesday due to a groin problem and was left out as the Rams drew 0-0 with Middlesbrough.

Speaking to DerbyshireLive after the draw, boss Wayne Rooney said: "Whether he is fit for Forest or not, I'm not sure yet.

"I think it is one where we will probably have to inject it and then take the international break off to make sure he gets back fit, but that is something I will have to make a call on at the back end of next week.

"It is disappointing for him, but it has given Kamil (Jozwiak) and Sibs (Louie Sibley) an opportunity to come in.

"I think Kamil has got better in the last two games, he is getting back to his full fitness."

Forest prepare for the East Midlands derby clash against Derby County with a Carabao Cup meeting with Wolves at the City Ground.

The Reds have lost all four of their Championship matches so far.

Defeats against Coventry City, Bournemouth, Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City have left Forest rock bottom of the Championship and with Chris Hughton under increasing pressure.
