Demons forward Fritsch facing AFL ban

Melbourne are likely to be without Bayley Fritsch for their AFL clash against the Sydney Swans. (AAP)

Unbeaten ladder-leaders Melbourne are likely to be without leading goalkicker Bayley Fritsch for Saturday night's AFL clash with Sydney at the MCG.

The Demons forward has been charged with striking North Melbourne young gun Tom Powell during Sunday's 30-point victory in Hobart and offered a one-match ban.

Match review officer Michael Christian assessed the second quarter incident as careless conduct, medium impact and high contact.

If Fritsch, who has kicked 18 goals this year, accepts the suspension, it will be a huge blow to Melbourne's prospects of maintaining their perfect record.

The Demons' win against North took them to 7-0 - their best start to a season in 56 years.

The 5-2 Swans are coming off a dramatic two-point win against last year's grand finalists Geelong and won their last match at the MCG, defeating reigning premiers Richmond in round three.

Meanwhile, injured Carlton forward Mitch McGovern was slapped with two $1500 fines for striking Essendon speedster Nick Hind during the Blues' 16-point win on Sunday.
