WASHINGTON _ Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan narrowly led GOP Sen. Kelly Ayotte in a poll of the New Hampshire Senate race commissioned by End Citizens United, a Democratic PAC.
Hassan had a 47 to 44 percent edge over Ayotte, a slight improvement for the Democrat since GBA Strategies last polled the race in July and found it tied 47-47. Libertarian Brian Chabot took 7 percent _ up from 4 percent in July.
The presidential race has tightened with Hillary Clinton leading Donald Trump 43 to 37 percent. She enjoyed a 10-point advantage in July, leading Trump 48 to 38 percent. Libertarian Gary Johnson was at 11 percent and Green Jill Stein was at 4 percent in this most recent poll.
GBA Strategies surveyed 600 likely voters on land lines and cell phones from Sept. 25 to 27. Two-thirds of the interviews were conducted before Monday night's presidential debate.
Recent polling has given Ayotte a slight advantage. She led Hassan 47 to 45 percent in a Monmouth poll conducted Sept. 17-20. An NBC/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll from earlier in in the month gave Ayotte a 52-44 edge among likely voters.
New Hampshire's Senate race continues to be among the closest in the nation, with each side's ground game likely to be an important factor on Election Day.
