Dembélé's strikes send PSG past Liverpool into Champions League semi-finals

Ousmane Dembélé scored twice in the last 20 minutes at Anfield on Tuesday night to give Paris Saint-Germain a 2-0 second leg win over Liverpool and a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 Champions League.

The France international squandered three good chances in the 2-0 first leg victory at the Parc des Princes in Paris last Wednesday.

But he atoned for his wastefulness on a rain-swept night in north-western England.

His first goal came after 72 minutes when he collected a pass from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on the edge of the Liverpool penalty area.

Dembélé fooled the Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister by shaping to shoot with his right foot but he moved the ball onto his left and curled it into the net past the Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

That made it 3-0 on aggregate.

PSG outclass Chelsea to reach Champions League last eight

Dembélé added his second on the night and PSG's fourth in the two legs in second-half stoppage time.

"We knew that it was going to be difficult," Dembélé told French broadcaster Canal+. "You have to work hard in order to reach the latter stages of this competition.

"We had some chances in the first-half and they really came at us in the second-half and it was really tough. But we've come away with two wins and a place in the semis."

PSG, who crushed Inter Milan 5-0 in the 2025 Champions League final, will play either the 2024 winners Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in the semi-final.

They play their quarter-final second leg on Wednesday night at the Allianz Arena with Bayern leading 2-1 following the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid last week.

Atletico Madrid, who got past Barcelona 3-2 on aggregate on Tuesday night to move into the semi-final, will take on Arsenal or Sporting.

Arsenal entertain the Portuguese outfit at the Emirates Stadium in north London nursing a 1-0 lead from the first leg of their quarter-final tie in Lisbon.
