Demba Ba's sweet tweet will make Newcastle United fans smile

Former Newcastle United striker Demba Ba was making football headlines in England once again this week as he helped sink Manchester United in the Champions League.

Now 35 and playing for Turkish side İstanbul Basaksehir, the Senegal international remarkably found himself with a clear run at goal from inside his own half only 12 minutes into the group stage clash with United on Wednesday night.

He coolly opened the scoring and his team went on to claim a shock 2-1 victory over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men.

In honour of his goal, the Sky Sports Premier League Twitter account pulled out a memorable clip from an old interview during his time in the Premier League.

Interviewer Geoff Shreeves asked the question: "Tell me a secret about you?"

Ba replied: "I love syrup. Strawberry syrup."

Asked how often he drank the stuff, Ba said: "Every day.

"When I drink water I put syrup in it."

Asked if that was good for you, Ba said: "I guess."

The tweet accompanying the video pondered: "Wonder if this is still his secret to success?"

Ba replied by posting a photograph of himself sitting outside with his feet up, along with a drink of his favourite tipple.

The caption read: "I guess so..." followed by a syringe emoji.

Ba scored 29 goals in 58 appearances for Newcastle between 2011 and 2013, before going on to join Chelsea.
