DeMarcus Cousins goes down with quad injury in 1st Q against Clippers

The Golden State Warriors didn’t just lose Game 2 of their first-round playoff matchup with the Los Angeles Clippers, they may have lost DeMarcus Cousins for the series, too.

The two teams we just over three minutes into the game when Cousins picked off a pass, but went down grabbing his leg on the fastbreak. After laying on the court for a touch, Cousins tried getting up, and asked to be taken out of the game after trying to walk on it.

According to reports, Cousins was in clear pain and was visibly frustrated with another injury — this one on the same leg that he ruptured his Achilles on.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Cousins will undergo an MRI on his quad tomorrow, which some believe could be torn. If that’s the case, we may have seen the last of Cousins in a Warriors uniform.

Losing Cousins for the postseason could be a huge blow to the Warriors title hopes as he’s been excellent against future potential frontcourt foes in Clint Capella, Stephen Adams and Nikola Jokic.

Now, more than ever, having Andrew Bogut as an insurance policy is huge for the Warriors moving forward. Despite the loss in Game 2, Kevon Looney had another fantastic game against the Clippers, which could mean that Bogut and Looney eat up close to all of the minutes at center.

For Cousins, the frustration could not be any higher than it is right now. In only the second postseason game of his career, he goes down with another injury that could take months to rehab, just months after coming back from one of the most difficult injuries to return from.

We don’t have any answers yet, but things don’t look great for Cousins. We’ll have to wait on the MRI results for more details on what his injury means for the rest of the season.
