Demarcus Christmas to remain on PUP list for 2019 season

Seattle Seahawks rookie defensive tackle Demarcus Christmas was not activated from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list within the 21 day period, and therefore he is ineligible to be activated onto the 53-man roster for the rest of the 2019 season.

The Seahawks placed Christmas (back) on the PUP list during the preseason. He remained there to the start of the year, which meant he had to sit for at least the first six weeks of the season.

Once that time passed, Seattle had 21 days to activate him to the 53-man roster, trade/release him, or keep him on the PUP list – which makes him ineligible to return until 2020.

The Seahawks had two players, Christmas and guard Phil Haynes, on the PUP list, and they chose to activate Haynes on Tuesday in place of receiver Gary Jennings, who was waived.

Christmas was a 2019 sixth round pick by Seattle out of Florida State University. He’s a versatile defensive tackle who can play over the center or over the guard.

Now, he’ll have the rest of the season to get healthy, with an eye for earning a spot on Seattle’s defensive line in 2020.
